Welcome to the official website for EIP: the Association of Chief Police Officers' annual Excellence in Policing Conference and Awards.
2010 is a very challenging year for policing in the UK. Forces and partner agencies are coping with financial pressures that are unprecedented in recent times but need to stay on course to deliver the best possible performance. The policing agenda is changing yet again as the new coalition government begins implementing policies that have a direct influence on funding and the way the service is held to account for performance. More than ever, EIP will, be aiming to offer a value for money event that enables delegates to keep up with the latest developments and gain insights as to what the future holds.
The ninth annual EIP Conference 'Accounting for Performance' focuses on the new challenges faced by managers, partners and regulators. The programme is developing as events unfold and will feature keynote speakers and subject specialists to explore three key themes in detail:
-
Value and quality: being citizen-focused
-
Achieving more with less
- Accountability and performance management
We already know that there will be dramatic budget cuts, that some savings need to be achieved by reducing bureaucracy and that 'targets in disguise' are to be stripped out in favour of greater local accountability. We can expect that lots of things we have grown accustomed to, and perhaps become comfortable with, will be discontinued. As yet it is not clear whether or by what they will be replaced.
We can anticipate a Police Reform and Social Responsibilities Bill in the Autumn which is likely to make major changes to the organisation and accountability of policing in the UK.
Building on the success of eight previous conferences, EIP10 is perfectly timed to provide a rare opportunity for delegates to learn about how the changes are shaping up and influence current thinking on the major issues and challenges faced by the police service.
Key speakers on the conference programme will include:
-
Sir Hugh Orde, President of the Association of Chief Police Officers
-
Sir Denis O'Connor, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary
-
Stephen Rimmer, Director-General of the Home Office Crime and Policing Group
-
Steve Finnigan, Chair of the ACPO Performance Management Business Area
-
Roger Baker, Her Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary
The main conference agenda will be supplemented by the ACPO Excellence in Policing Awards 2010, sponsored by Alexander, which enable forces and partnerships to share details of the most innovative policing projects throughout England and Wales. Please visit the Awards Page to download an entry form or view last year’s submissions.
This year’s event takes place at the National Policing Improvement Agency’s Conference Centre, Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Coventry on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st September 2010.
We hope you enjoy browsing the EIP site and look forward to welcoming you and your colleagues to the 2010 Excellence in Policing Conference.
